for the Pair

DESCRIPTION: A matched pair of rare and exquisitely carved rectangular zitan display stands in kang table style. These museum quality stands are constructed with panel tops and ice-plate edges upon inset, pierced waists. The upper aprons display a narrow, relief carved leaf diaper pattern; the lower aprons are widely flared and scrolled, carved in high relief with a flourishing cloud design. The outwardly bulging legs are similarly carved with taotie masks at each knee ending with in-turned horse-hoof feet.

Rarely do such fine zitan pieces come to the market, and these are consigned from a long held private Florida collection. Both are in very good condition with no warping, and each with minor shrinkage to one side of the panel tops. The beautiful zitan wood ranges from dark burgundy to black in color and they date from 19th C., Qing Dynasty. DIMENSIONS: Each 16 ½” long (42 cm) x 9 ½” wide (24 cm) x 4 ¾” high (12 cm).
