DESCRIPTION: A fantastic pair of antique carved and polychrome wood figures, originating from Bali and dating from about 1900 to 1920. These winged wolf-like creatures, crouching within a bed of flowering vines, are quite alert with their mouths open and teeth barred. Some of the original pigments of gilt, red, white and black remain. Indonesia is noted for its fanciful wood carvings that appear on temples and within shrines. These fantastic creatures are a testament to the imagination and skill of these carvers. This pair has been recently released from a private Asian collection where they have been held for many years. DIMENSIONS: Each approximately 11 ½” long (29 cm) x 10 ¼” wide (26 cm) x 7” high (18 cm).
