Fine Antique Chinese Elm Bed, 19th C.

DESCRIPTION: An outstanding antique Chinese Yumu (Northern Elm) bed or daybed, raised on stout circular legs and hand-joined on all four sides by elm stretchers. The rectangular top of this bed is inset with finely woven rattan, supported by strong woven rope webbing underneath. Chinese Northern Elm wood has a beautiful wave-like grain and was favored for Northern Chinese furniture making.

This sturdy, handsome bed dates from the Ching Dynasty, early 1800’s, and is in remarkable condition with no cracks and with all rattan and rope under-webbing in perfect condition; it's very solid and exceedingly beautiful in its simple design and construction. One photo shows the bed with a custom made mattress covered in blue upholstery with matching pillows. These can be purchased separately if desired, and the mattress is suitably firm for sitting or sleeping. BED DIMENSIONS: 81.5” long (2.07 m) x 38” wide (96.5 cm) x 22.5” high (57 cm).
