Fine Japanese Ikebana Basket, Meiji, Signed
| DESCRIPTION: A fine smoked reed basket in a graceful ovoid form, woven in an open pattern with horizontal reed bands. The basket is complemented by a bent bamboo handle with a butterfly knot centered at the top, and is firmly secured to the basket on each side with three-prong woven supports. Signed by the artist on the base, this basket was in a private Georgia collection since 1975; collector’s catalogue stickers can still be seen on the base. In perfect condition with no breaks or losses and dating from the Meiji Period, c. 1868 – 1912; original interior bamboo flower holder included. DIMENSIONS: 16” high (40.5 cm) x 7 ˝” wide (19 cm).
