$2,795.00
DESCRIPTION: This richly colored and appealing Chinese scroll painting depicts a dignitary being given a large seal by his young servant. The scholar wears an elaborate headdress and strokes his long beard with one hand while looking down at the boy. Both are dressed in sumptuous garments with decorative designs including floral garlands, cloud bands and geometrical patterns. Proudly the boy presents a large seal with a foo lion to his master who is patting him on the shoulder. Dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, this large watercolor on paper would be a dynamic focal point in any interior. There are some creases, minor flaking and touchups common for a scroll of this age, but the optical appearance is stunning. DIMENSIONS: Entire scroll: 83 ½” long (almost 7’) x 38 ½” wide. Actual painting: 61 ¾” long x 34” wide.
