DESCRIPTION: A finely carved Chinese josh stick (incense) holder, crafted from a grey nephrite stone in the form of two fish, one leaping high out of the water and the other smaller fish upside down at the base. Both fish have open mouths to hold the josh sticks, the residue from which still remaining in the mouths and crevices (we have not cleaned it). The carving detail is excellent, even on the underside, and the condition is perfect. From a private Philadelphia collection and dating from the latter Qing Dynasty, 19th/20th C. DIMENSIONS: 6 ¼” high (16 cm) x 3 ½” wide (9 cm).
