| DESCRIPTION: For all you collectors who would like to display your treasures in traditional Chinese fashion, here we have a fantastic pair of old Chinese mirror image display shelves crafted from Jichi Mu, or “chicken wing wood.” Each shelf has multiple levels of horizontal display space at varying heights, separated by vertical supports with circular and leaf-form openings. These are well-crafted stands and the beautiful grain pattern is easily seen. The previous owner had these in storage for many years and they are in “as found” condition – a bit dusty and in need of waxing to make the striking gain patterns jump out and shimmer. They are both reversible (can be shown from either side) and lend themselves to a variety of room arrangements. Actually in very good condition with a few minor scratches, one small piece of corner edging missing and some separation of the wood from the frame of the topmost shelf of one. We are going to be conservative and date these from the late Qing to Republic Period (c. 1880 – 1949). Please note that these would require an outside shipper other than Ancient East. ABOUT JICHI MU: This hardwood’s name comes from its tight and feather-like grain pattern resembling the iridescent quality of lights and shadows on some chicken or pheasant's feathers. Ranging in tone between brown and gray, it is an expensive wood that was often used for Qing Palace furniture. There are few examples of Ming Dynasty furniture made with Jichi Mu that exist. Old furniture made with Jichi Mu ranks with furniture made with zitan or huanghuali.
