| DESCRIPTION: An outstanding manji netsuke of squared shape, finely carved on both sides with cavorting shi shi (foo, or lion dogs) amid blooming peonies with a lightly textured background. This netsuke has been lacquered in the negoro technique, using a bright iron-red lacquer over black, resulting in a truly beautiful effect that highlights the skilled carving work of great detail and animation.
