| DESCRIPTION: A beautiful woodblock "okubi-e" (literally "big head") print by print master Toyokuni III, 1786-1865 (also known as Kunisada), one of the most active and recognized Japanese Ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period. This print depicts an actor with flowered headdress in an elaborate “flaming pearl” kimono. The Ukiyo-e (or “floating world”) style was born in Kyoto and later brought to Edo, where woodblock printing became its predominant medium. This print is in very good condition with good impressions and beautiful, clear color. Any streaks seen in photos are light reflections off the glass, not defects in the print, as this print is professionally framed and ready to hang. Mid 1800’s, Edo Period.
