| DESCRIPTION: A stained ivory toggle of three mice climbing on (and nibbling their way into) a loaf of bread. Chinese toggles (Guajian) acted as counter weights to hang objects from the belt or sash. Toggles were attached by a cord to personal items such as tobacco pouches, pipes, eating sets, money or other items, and this one was threaded through the two holes on the underside base. Good condition and dates from the late Qing to Republic Period. DIMENSIONS: 2” long (5 cm) x 1 ¼” high (3.2 cm).
