DESCRIPTION: A spectacular Japanese box, beautifully lacquered with gold scrolling vines, delicate leaves and a repeating circular mon (family crest) against a black lacquer ground. This striking box is secured with hand etched brass fittings on the corners and matching rectangular handles on each end. On top of the slightly domed lid is a circular depiction of millet grain ready for harvest. The interior and bottom are finished with a glossy, mirror-like, black roiro ground in perfect condition... DESCRIPTION: A quite handsome Japanese hibachi, crafted from a section of Kiri wood (paulownia) with a lobed, rounded body shaped somewhat like a pumpkin. Inside is the original copper liner where coals would be placed for heating or keeping a tea pot warm. DESCRIPTION: An early 20th C. Japanese hibachi constructed of vertical bamboo strips and lacquered in the negoro technique. The orange-red lacquer layers have been applied over a back lacquer base and then polished so the black under-layer shows through, resulting in a very beautiful and colorful surface patina. This handsome hibachi has a removable copper liner and is in very good condition with one stable age split on the bottom. DIMENSIONS: 11” high (28 cm) x 12 ½” diameter (31.7 cm).
