DESCRIPTION: A handsome smoked bamboo ikebana basket with appealing patterns and woven rope corners. The body is divided into three sections, the top section with a thin horizontal weave and the others with broad vertical bands. These join a square base of horizontally braided bamboo. A continuous rope woven from very thin bamboo strips forms the handle, corners and feet. This is a truly wonderful basket in excellent condition with a beautiful patina; no breaks or losses. DESCRIPTION: A conical shaped Japanese ikebana basket crafted from split bamboo, the upper portion in open vertical strips secured by a horizontal weave at the base. The basket is lined with the original, conforming brass water container and rests on three short bamboo legs. Excellent condition and dating from the late Meiji to Taisho Periods (1900 – 1926). DIMENSIONS: Basket is 12” high (30.5 cm) with handles; 7” high (17.8 cm) without handles; 8 ½” in diameter (21.5 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A handsome round ikebana basket, Meiji Period, crafted of smoked bamboo in a diagonal weave with double wrapped handle. Three vertical bamboo strips reinforce two corners, and the basket rests on a square, open weave base. Excellent condition with no breaks or losses. DIMENSIONS: 16 ½” high with handle (42 cm); 10 ½” diameter (26.5 cm).

DESCRIPTION: An early 20th C. Japanese bamboo ikebana basket with tall handle, four short feet and fitted solid copper lining. This double weave basket has a horizontal under-weave and a parallel diagonal outer weave which forms a star pattern. Two parallel bands with a center diagonal pattern decorate the rim. DESCRIPTION: A fine smoked reed basket in a graceful ovoid form, woven in an open pattern with horizontal reed bands. The basket is complemented by a bent bamboo handle with a butterfly knot centered at the top, and is firmly secured to the basket on each side with three-prong woven supports. Signed by the artist on the base, this basket was in a private Georgia collection since 1975; collector’s catalogue stickers can still be seen on the base. A tall and quite dramatic Japanese ikebana basket crafted of a reddish bamboo, the inner layer woven in a tight herringbone pattern and the outer layer composed of wide vertical bamboo strips added for vertical strength. These wide strips have been split at the tops and woven back down into the basket in projecting V-shaped patterns. Three twisting yellow bamboo twigs form the handle.
