DESCRIPTION: An appealing little Japanese okimono of two bumpy toads, the carver having used the natural branching of the stag antler to differentiate them. One toad kneels upright, while the other sticks out his tongue. Very pleasing and nicely carved. Good condition with no losses or cracks; most likely Taisho Period, 1912 – 1926. DIMENSIONS: 3” high x 3” wide (7.5 cm).

DESCRIPTION: Pair of shakudo menuki with engraved detail depicting two sparrows among rice sheaves in gold highlights, c. 1600 – 1650. Unsigned but in Waki-Goto style. Good condition with only minor wear. DIMENSIONS: Each 1 3/8” wide (3.5 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A matching pair of elegant cloisonné vases showing flying cranes on a deep, glossy black background. Each vase has three white cranes with grey tail feathers and feet in a mirror image of each other, outlined in delicate silver wire. The vases have a fine mirror-like finish with silver rims. Most likely Taisho Period, c. 1920, unsigned. Excellent condition with a very few faint scratches; no dings, repairs or fractures. DIMENSIONS: Each 7” tall (18 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A Japanese shakudo (copper alloy) kozuka, c. 1700 – 1760, with a well patinated nanako background (literally “fish roe”) of tiny dome-shaped dots produced by a punch. The shakudo plate is set into a gilt copper frame with a repousse’ motif in gold and silver detailing of a tied grouping of autumn flowering plants picked for ikebana (flower arranging). DESCRIPTION: A fine smoked bamboo ikebana basket woven in a tall ovoid form with entwined bamboo handle. The basket is crafted with a vertical diagonal weave from both wide and narrow splints in contrasting colors. This sturdy and very handsome basket has a beautiful aged patina with no losses detected; early 20th century. DIMENSIONS: 18 ½” high x 8 ¾” diameter.
