Lidded Porcelain Japanese Rice Bowl CP123DESCRIPTION: A lidded, hand painted Japanese rice serving bowl, the lid decorated with two confronting roosters among floral designs. Cloud designs line the rims, and the navy blue base tapers dramatically to a raised foot. An impressed maker’s mark appears on the base as well as the original collector’s inventory numbers. Carved Japanese Staghorn Parasol Handle, Meiji LVIVR2DESCRIPTION: An attractive carved stag horn handle, most likely for a lady’s fine umbrella, with a continuous scene of a small boy next to a woman in elaborate robes with a fan, both standing under a tall pine tree with reticulated branches. The carving is attached with a brass ring to a bamboo handle which has an embedded brass screw receptor for attaching to the umbrella. DIMENSIONS: Stag horn carving is 7 1/2” long (19 cm). Pair of Japanese Guardian Lion-Dogs (Koma-Inu), Edo FIG84DESCRIPTION: A pair of wonderful wood koma-inu dogs (also called Shishi or Fu dogs) covered overall in a dark brown lacquer with traces of gilt. Such dogs were always found in pairs, male and female, with huge stone examples placed at the entrances of Buddhist temples to protect against evil spirits.
