SN67DESCRIPTION: A rare Chinese toggle in the form of a miniature Mongolian eating set or trousse, consisting of a reddish gold lacquered metal sheath finished with brass bands and bone cap, containing two removable and useable knives with horn handles and bone caps, a set of tweezers, and a suspension loop on the side. Chinese Silver Necklace with Pendant and Bells, Qing LVJO2DESCRIPTION: A Chinese silver necklace with silver linked chain and heart shaped pendant, one side with blue enameled Chinese characters and the other with etched designs. Two silver bells are attached with short chains to the primary chain and hang as additional accents. Chinese Burl Toggle of Frog on Lily Pad, Qing SN77DESCRIPTION: A large, charming Chinese toggle (guajian) fashioned from burl wood in the form of a frog with inlaid eyes crouched to a lily pad. SN65 DESCRIPTION: A wonderful example of Chinese utilitarian folk art, this circular burl toggle (guajian) is shaped like a large convex button with a loop fashioned in back for suspension by cord from the belt or sash. Carved from a single piece of a richly grained burl wood, it has the wear and deep patina typical of an older wooden folk piece and is in overall fine condition. 18th C., Qing Dynasty. Rare Chinese Abacus Toggle, 19th C. SN97DESCRIPTION: A Chinese miniature abacus (suan p’an) cleverly designed as a toggle (guajian) to be used as a counterweight for objects suspended from the belt or sash. The abacus has nine bamboo rods carrying two tiers of tiny, moveable wooden beads, five below and two above, all contained within a hardwood frame. Large Chinese Carved Boxwood Toggle, Pair Shoes, 19th C SN69DESCRIPTION: A large Chinese boxwood toggle (Guajian) carved as a pair of men’s shoes resting side by side, a symbol of marital harmony and the wish for sons. Very nicely carved in relief with the fine-grained boxwood having a wonderful, aged patina from years of use. There are two circular “lu” (riches) ideographs on the toes (a wish for wealth).
