Handsome Inscribed Jade Scholar’s Brush SCH12DESCRIPTION: A Chinese scholar’s calligraphy brush, the brush crafted with natural bristles encased in a horn ferrule. These are secured with a silver band to a pitted green jade handle inscribed with archaic characters and terminating in a round knob. A quality, well made brush in excellent condition, most likely dating to the latter Qing Dynasty to early Republic Period. DIMENSIONS: 9 ¼” long (23.5 cm). $450

Chinese Carved Stone Fish Toggle, Early Qing JHS112DESCRIPTION: A Chinese toggle, carved from a flat, black stone in the form of a carp. Simple but graceful lines define the body of the carp, long a symbol of wealth and abundance in China. A hole has been drilled toward the “nose” of the carp for cord suspension as a counterweight, and the shape of this toggle probably lent itself to be used as a rubbing stone as well. Shou Shan Stone Chinese Seal with Foo Dog, Qing SCH329DESCRIPTION: A Chinese seal crafted from an attractive beige shou shan stone (soap stone) with deep red inclusions. A foo dog (Buddhist lion) has been carved with its head turned sitting on its haunches upon a rectangular pedestal. The base leaves a positive (or red) impression when inked. Dating from the 19th C. Chinese Seal with Foo Dog, Qing SCH328DESCRIPTION: A fairly simple Chinese seal crafted from a mottled gray stone. A foo dog (Buddhist lion) has been carved sitting on its haunches upon a tall rectangular pedestal. The base is inscribed with a six character mark and leaves a negative (or white) impression when inked. Dating from the late Qing Dynasty, it is in good condition with normal minor wear from usage. Chinese Jade Mask Pendant or Toggle JO33DESCRIPTION: A Chinese celadon jade pendant, both sides well carved in the form of an archaic mask and strung on a black nylon cord with a round celadon jade bead. Such amulets have a long history in China and would have been worn as a mystical protector against all unseen evil and bad luck. Chinese Carved Celadon Jade Chilong, Qing JHS163DESCRIPTION: A well carved Chinese jade, the nephrite stone of a celadon color with scattered brown veining, crafted in the form of a crouching chilong (immature dragon) with its head turned to the right. The sensuous, flowing form of the body is complemented by the crisp curving lines of the wings and bifurcated tail. Excellent condition and dating from the latter Qing Dynasty, C.1880 – 1910. DIMENSIONS: 4” long (10.2 cm) x 2 ¼” wide (5.6 cm).
