Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Mala Necklace, 19th C. JO41DESCRIPTION: An antique strand of Tibetan Buddhist prayer beads (or mala), handcrafted with beads of light tan yack bone strung on a cord and terminating in a large antique ivory guru. Malas such as this one were handed down in Tibetan families for generations, and genuine antique malas are becoming quite difficult to find. Chinese Scholar’s Ink Stone in Tortoise Shell Box, Qing SCH370DESCRIPTION: A beautiful and rarely seen scholar’s ink stone housed in a tortoise shell box. The overlaid tortoise shell has striking patterns and is in very good condition with no losses and only very minor scuffing. The interior of the box is finished in black lacquer with the surface of the fitted duan stone slightly angled to pool water at one end. Qing Dynasty, 19th C. Chinese Export Tortoise Shell Comb, 19th C. SAO206DESCRIPTION: A large, ten pronged tortoise shell comb made for the European market (Victorian era, circa 1880-1890). The fashion of the day included large elaborate combs placed in upswept hair, and this one is a real beauty! The curved prongs and scalloped crown are from a single piece of shell which is mounted with three large round beads and two carved triangular designs.
