Tall Japanese Sumida Vase, Signed Inoue

DESCRIPTION: A large and handsome Sumida Gawa vase with ribbed body, high relief figures and pinched neck. A thick, traditional flambe' glaze in dark brown and blue covers the mouth and neck, and flows down the shoulders. Fine attention to detail has been paid to the handmade figures of a boy and girl standing on ledges against the ribbed body. Inoue (Ryosai) maker's mark in pear-shaped appliqué on the back. DESCRIPTION: A handsome rectangular Chinese chest crafted from a deep red ox leather and furnished with brass fittings. The interior still has the original blue silk lining and would have originally held scrolls or documents. Today it would make an attractive accent piece on top or underneath a cabinet or table. Japanese Sumida Gawa Vase with Monkey

DESCRIPTION: A Japanese Sumida vase with round neck covered in a rich, thick flambé glaze running to the shoulders, with a high relief figure of a monkey balanced on a rocky ledge. In his right hand the monkey holds a peach (symbol of longevity) he has pulled from a green vase; these are all contrasted against the ribbed red body of the vase. Excellent condition with no chips; signed "Ryosai" on the base. DIMENSIONS: 5 3/4" high (14.5 cm) x 2 1/2" diameter (6.5 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A small Japanese Sumida vase with round neck rim covered in a rich, thick flambe glaze running to the shoulders; a high relief figure of a young boy in a green robe is balanced upon rockery on the ribbed red body of the vase. DESCRIPTION: A large and colorful Chinese fencai Imari lidded jar, the body decorated with diamond shaped, hand painted panels in raised enamels with designs of flowers, dragons, bamboo, birds and pine, separated by dark blue borders. The shoulder and foot are bordered in dark blue with white designs, while the knobbed lid is enameled with white flowers on an orange ground.
